Love the Lisboa lighted ornament! So glad you have found a few spots of holiday festivity. And I think your tree is wonderful! Can't wait for the Nativity pictures from your next adventure!
Isn't it? We came upon it by going into one end of a metro station and then to come out the other end you go up FIVE escalators! It was crazy! Lisbon is definitely a city of hills.
While your tree is tiny, it is lovely . Grandma's handiwork is a joy to see. I miss her the most at Christmas. Like Carol, her ornaments were reworked until perfect and then primped.
My major project a couple of years ago was washing it and starching it. Quite a projects. How to get the wings to be flat? How to get the body to be a cone? The travel didn't go perfectly for it, so I suspect restarching is in my future.
There's a lovely story with that tree. I was the event coordinator for Festival of Trees at a museum and it was staging. We always freshened our staging up every couple of years, and I said oooo and I ended up with it. To me it feels like real trees in the forest. And it's perfect for dangly ornaments. Side note: several of my best ornaments came from my years with Festival. The museum shop had an awesome buyer.
While my in-laws did not grow up in Lisboa they were born and bread in two small towns in the Northern Part of Portugal. Came to Newburg NY and saw the explosion of Christmas EVERYWHERE the first year in the US...and could not believe how commercial it was (to them) to them, Christmas was and still is a day to celebrate with their families...private and spent at church...maybe that is something that you might be seeing...BTW I DO THE SAME THING WITH FINDING A SPECIAL ORNAMENT FROM EACH PLACE we travel...it’s a wonderful way to remember the trips and experiences we have had each year. Feliz Natal to both you and Scott 🎄🎄
I too feel much the same - there shouldn't be anything in the stores until after Thanksgiving, we would put our tree up a week before Christmas. But to have the polar opposite of what we are used to is ... odd.
It's both a way to celebrate and remember and to beautifully decorate! What's not to love?
I think I would love Christmas in Portugal. My mother preached you don’t say Merry Christmas until after midnight Mass. And most of the parties were between Christmas and New Years, not the whole month of December.
In the small world department, I can’t figure out how to attach a photo, but my crocheted angel is remarkably similar to yours!
