There's an American food store near El Corte Ingles, Loja Liberty, where you can get big jars of Jif or Skippy, either crunchy or smooth. It's definitely more expensive than in the US but works out to be cheaper than buying the small jars in normal supermarkets
I remember the peanut butter withdrawal during my study abroad in Spain. Eventually, in a novelty shop of sorts that had food from around the world, I found actual American peanut butter. My host mother did not understand my excitement, but it was such a relief. Good luck finding your ultimate solution! PB is too good to go without!
I think what's bothering me the most is the lack of sugar. I guess I like my peanut butter just a little sweeter (and less oily) than plain ground peanuts.
Great to hear from you Jessica! Thanks for reading and commenting!
The hills are the real deal and that is a good hoof to the Castelo...seemingly always uphill from everywhere. Love the Alfama - lots of nooks and crannies to explore! Thought of you as we were catching up on early seasons of "Somebody Feed Phil" (on Netflx). He did a great culinary visit to Lisboa - including taking in a meal "across the river" and spending some time at the Time Out Market at Cais do Sodré - across from the station for the train to Estoril and Cascais. He loved his wanderings around the town and connected quickly with the pace and the people. Bom fin de semana!
That's the thing about castles and other defensive structures. They're often placed in defensible positions. Like, say, the tops of hills. Which would indeed make them uphill from everywhere :-D.
I've been to the Time Out Market - popped in there for about 60 seconds on my way to an appointment. Need to go back with Amy sometime for sure. Maybe we should put "Somebody Feed Phil" on our list of shows to research.
Yes! The castles are reminiscent of my parents' respective high schools which were located at a distance of three miles from their homes, uphill, in both ways...except the castles always are! Be well!
Rings of Power ambitiously wrote the intent for one of the Heroes to literally swim an ocean... and that intent made it to a finished product without anyone saying no. Omens of writing to come. I feel like to make it interesting the story needs to deploy the old trope of... this was all a dream and at the end of season 5 we'll all see the character wake up and mutter the words "Glad that's over! That was a poorly written dream" then get out of bed and start another wonderful day in the 2nd age.
Seriously, watching season 2 will be at the bottom of the list and mostly to see what crazy they introduce into that story line. I recommend House of the Dragon, it's a much better show for character development and plot.
HBO Max is great if you haven't had it or it's been awhile. They had a deal on it last month for ~50% off so went with the non-ad year plan for ~$100. They'll probably have something for black Friday? It's a bit heavy on super heroes since they own DC comics like Disney with Marvel but they have a ton of other movies and some interesting shows like HotD. Yeah I'd give it a try for a month at least.
Re the peanut butter issue: buy a peanut grinder on Amazon and grind your own, assuming they have peanuts in Portugal. I buy only the supermarket ground product anymore, eat it with a spoon with strawberry jam. Yum.
Hope Amy is feeling better/will feel better soon. We've got Tropical Storm NIcole here now, so cool and damp in Florida also.
Kudos for being in such good physical shape and for continuing to learn the language. Love to all of you. Phyl

Thank you! We've heard of Loja Liberty and know of one farther away. Didn't realize there's one quite as close. Definitely have to check it out.

That would be hilarious. Assuming the show makes it as far as a fifth season :-).
I've heard good things about House of the Dragon. We don't have HBO. Is it worth subscribing to?

Thanks, we'll look into it!

Good advice. Thank you, Aunt Phyllis. I hope the storm passes quickly.
I hope the tissues are soft!
Amy is laughing weakly. In a "dream on" sort of way.
