Hi! I’m a new subscriber, having been referred by Nancy Whiteman, who I’ve followed for close to a year. Appreciate what you are writing about and your experiences. My husband & I have intentions of moving in the summer of 2024, after our only son graduates high school. He’s hoping to join us if he gets accepted to a university he is interested in attending in Lisbon! As long as he ends up somewhere in the EU, we’ll be moving! Looking forward to reading more!

Welcome aboard Kathy! Thanks for subscribing and for getting in touch! I hope we can be helpful to you moving forward. In the Before Times, I used to work in a high school. Where does your son go to school?

Hi Scott - we are in Pennsylvania, near Hershey, and he’s finishing the 2nd semester as a junior in a small(ish) public high school, Lower Dauphin, after having spent his first semester in a public high school abroad in Hamburg, Germany. He is starting to research universities and a top choice at the moment is NOVA School of Business & Economics in Carcavelos, but would prefer NOT to be roommates with us 😂

Wow! First semester of high school abroad is unusual. Good for all of you!

Yes, first time our high school sent someone abroad despite regularly receiving exchange students. The intention was to go for a full year but there were host family-life issues so we made the decision to cut the year short, but still a great experience and he came back undeterred to return for his bachelors. Wanting to live in Europe runs in the family!

A student at my school went through the CBYX program and would have spent her entire senior year in Germany were not for the pandemic.

Anything is possible. I’ll have to check on that. In any case I really appreciate the information.

I loved your interview! I listened to the whole thing. Amy, I miss your voice. Scott, I'm sorry I don't know you that well, but Amy's voice sent me back to our childhood. Love you both. XOXO ❤

Hi, I wanted to access the info on your language teacher and that seemed to require a paid subscription to Substack. I AM enjoying your podcasts. Bruno must be the most popular accountant in PT. We were also directed to him by the Facebook group and had a consult with him about a month ago. My husband and I are on our way to Portugal in about 3 1/2 weeks!

Hi Sandi, I think there's a chance you're confusing Jen B with Janelle Holden.

Thank you for the resources. I believe Jens blogs are only available to those using the paid subscription version of Substack. I really appreciate that your blog is free and open! Always enjoy the content, thank you!

While Jen may have some of her posts behind a paywall (and I'm not sure that's true), I only pay for one or two Substack blogs and don't subscribe to any that don't have at least some free content.

Glad you enjoy our posts; thanks for following along!

No paywalls for me. Now I'm off to doublecheck my settings...

Sandi, were you blocked from seeing my Substack? I don't have paid subscriptions, nor do I plan to ever move to that model.
