And now Stanford. Always jumping on the cool kids bandwagon, Stanford...

Hope you are in the clear and can research some of those options in good health in case you need them in the future without being confronted by the immediacy of a crisis. Fingers crossed that you remain in fine form. Saúde!

We crafted an emergency plan shortly after we arrived. Still nerve-wracking to consider actually pulling the trigger.

He'll need some new source content as the law schools are dropping out all over the place!

Eh. I don't think he's sweating about it. Has anyone followed Harvard and Yale?

So glad you are feeling better! You should create a website of health care info for expats, complete with hospital ratings! Sounds like you are becoming experts on so many things...

Aww, sorry to hear you guys got so sick, but how interesting to find out that you think you had it before. The nursing student in me says seek help if you are having trouble breathing! Breathing difficulties with covid can become really bad, really quickly. Sounds like Amy made it through ok, but....And she can most likely go to the pharmacy and say she needs x, y, and z, medications for her asthma, without a perscription. Only antibiotics and antidepressants actually needed a perscription in Cyprus. We preferred a specific private hospital. It was scary for sure when Chris had to use it for gallbladder surgery. Our insurance also reimbursed us for all our copays, which was a surprise to us. So we'd pay 50€ to go to the doctor, submit a claim, and get that 50€ back. I wonder if Portugal is the same?

It's hard to tell what needs a prescription and what doesn't. We've also found that medications which technically require a prescription can be had without one depending on a variety of circumstances. Still, we don't want to make a habit of begging prescription drugs off of our pharmacists.

Our private health insurance doesn't fully kick in until December 1. We're finishing up our 90 day waiting period. I don't know whether or not it will cover copays. I'm not sure there are copays here. It sort of sounds like we pay for the procedure and then submit a claim and get reimbursed.

Ack, sorry you have gone through all this and glad you didn't end up needing emergency care. When you're sick you just want an easy path to meds and rest... not loads of confusing decisions based on unknowable factors. Are you both on the mend now? Hope you're back to 100% soon!

We miss you both!

We're considerably better today than we were last weekend. We're also not 100% and we seem to be plateauing at best, perhaps backsliding a little. More coughing today than yesterday, for example. We'll get there. Thanks for reaching out! We miss you, too!

I'm so sorry you have been sick. Did you consider ordering groceries through Continente or Auchan rather than a third party like Glovo? It's much easier when there is no middle man, especially if there are any issues with the order. We have used both Continente & Auchan and have settled into ordering from Auchan with some regularity. So far no issues with things like stale bread or close/past expiry dates. Once they forgot a couple of items, and when this was reported they promptly gave us the options of refund or credit toward a future order.

Also, I didn't realize Actifed was by prescription! That is what a farmacia gave us for Lily when we visited in March and she came down with a cold-like illness.

We did not consider ordering through Continente or Auchan, no. We'll look into that should we need to have delivery again. Thank you!

And sorry for not being clear. I don't believe Actifed requires a prescription. Nothing we got for Covid required a prescription as far as I know.
