I fell in love with the historic center of Oeiras. It is sooo charming! But most of the broader Oeiras "concelho" - sadly, not so much.

I know a lot of people love Parede. We would seriously look into living there if it weren't too far from the teen's school & volleyball practices. You guys might check it out on your next adventure!

For me, it feels like the imperfect combination of "just far enough from what we've got going on now that it would be hard to keep our social life" and "not far enough to be really different" so why bother? But I suppose I should give it a chance before jumping to conclusions.

Hi Amy and Scott-

I love hearing about these side trips! A lovely (vicarious) excursion for me from my sofa on a cold January night. The sunshine is nice.... something I vaguely remember!

Hi Amy and Scott! I stumbled upon your substack while searching for news from my home country, Portugal! I live in Ireland now, since 2012!

I've found it quite interesting to read your impressions of living in Lisbon and your visits to other cities. May I recommend you visit Aveiro next? It's a lovely city, that we call our Portuguese Venezia! It's where I went to college and I think it would be a lovely option to settle and live in 🙂 wishing you all the best!

Comparison is good. Lunch looks divine!

Amy, I'd love to see photos of your Nativity visit and hear your impressions.

There are photos of both in Christmas 2.0. What's hard to express is the scale. More nativities to come next year!
