So relieved that Amy did not waste a moment of sleep over waste management but not the least surprised.

Gone is my vision of pots of citrus and bougainvillea on your balcony.

Every post from you is wonder filled.

Much love

Yes, sadly, little room for citrus and bougainvillea on the balcony. Amy has some ideas, though, so we'll see what happens.

Your glass recycling melody reminds me of Springsteen's "New York City Serenade." "Listen to the junkman, he's singing..."

I don't know that one. I'll have to check it out.

Nice to know some places really do recycle. Here, we separate everything just to watch the truck dump them in the same compartment on the same truck. 🤔

Love

It's totally awesome. And they recycle more types of things than I thought possible.

Love your update on recycling in Portugal. Seems like they go a step above what we do here in California. I do remember huge trash and recycling bins and Barcelona but I can't recall how they sorted everything. Glad to see that they are responsible and concerned about our environment.

The infrastructure is in place. A cursory search suggests that recycle rates in PT are lower than in other European countries, though, which seems strange to me.

Yes, peek into one of the bins and you will see a cavernous space below where the recycling all collects below ground, rather like an outhouse or Porta-Potty. I do wonder how they are emptied.

They do extend below the sidewalk, and it's very cool to watch them collect it. We've seen similar set-ups in a couple of European cities, where the whole shebang sort of lifts out of a trapdoor type contraption. Worth trying to see it!

Awesome! Now we just need to figure out when this all goes down (literally and figuratively). Thanks for the info!
