I believe I walked by the very top tip of this park hustling over to Zé for a roasted chicken. I told myself I needed to come back and see what was on the other side of the park’s wall. That has not happened. Your post showed me what a gem I missed. Thanks for the tour and incentive to get over there and explore.
I just walked through this very park two days ago for the first time! I wish I’d found this substack beforehand for the history background. I’ve been either visiting or living in Portugal (Sintra area) for almost 53 years. My family would love our occasional day visits to Lisbon, but we never explored this park’s neighborhood (or this part of Lisbon) in all that time (pre-Metro). Needing to “kill time” for five hours in between rental cars at the airport, I decided to forego the usual (but still special) neighborhoods and get off at Anjos metro instead. I ended up winding my way around a part of Lisbon I’d never been, having a very looong galão stop while watching locals greet each other and Airbnb-ers grab “Ubers” back to the airport, and stumbled upon this park where I communed with a most beautiful rooster, before descending past that “Legal Medicine” building. Your post makes me realize how much I missed seeing there. Will have to return one day…. Thanks so much for the post!
The chamber of commerce— or local equivalent— should hire you pronto! Lovely portrait of the park.
ooo wouldn't that be fun!
The birds of Portugal are so magical! Thank you for sharing <3
Thank you for reading!
Tremendous photo-journalism on a delightful slice of "vida Lisboeta!" Continue to enjoy the many facets and aspects of that lovely park.
Awww - thank you! You made my day!
Yes! This has been one of our favorite stops when we've visited Lisboa. I could watch chickens all day. 😄 Thank you for sharing.
So glad you enjoy it too!
I LOVED TAKING THE TOUR WITH YOU!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Nice story. Who gets the chicken's eggs?
I haven't the foggiest! Great question!

We could have lunch at La Vila....
So beautiful and so close to home! Enjoy every moment you spend in it!❤️
I adore the way so many of Lisbon's parks have good seating under big trees, plus a kiosk with food and beverages.
That reminds me - I should do one of this amazing tree in another park
The big one in Principe Real?
You got it!
This is great! I can feel the serenity. ☺️
Thanks. It's lovely there, especially if you like rooster crowing all day 😂
Fantastic tour - love the pictures! Glad that you landed somewhere that makes you feel at home.
We are so fortunate
Love this entry! The pictures are fantastic, and learning the details of the history was super interesting! Thanks, Amy!
Thanks Moira!!
