I read most of your posts and appreciate your dedication. The survey went deeper than I had energy for. Please don’t be discouraged. As a former blogger, I appreciated my followers and their comments, but in the end I concluded that my posts were most valuable to me as a record of my adventures. Do what feeds you, and thank you for taking us along for the ride.

Thank YOU for reading, Laura! I totally hear you on the record of the adventures!

I totally get it. You weren't alone in the not enough energy for the survey category. No worries. Thanks for following along!

For me, I pretty much never respond to surveys. That's why I'm no longer in the US and have unsubscribed from so much of what used to come to my inbox. That said, I REALLY LOVE your posts, how ever often you feel the desire to provide them. You shouldn't feel pressured to stick to a schedule. You are "volunteers". And I realize that some people are paid subscribers and some are free, but just know that you and your observations are sincerely enjoyed and appreciated by this reader!

Thank you for the kind words, Sandi! We have no paid subscribers (it's not an option we've enabled) so yes, all volunteer here. Where in PT are you?

As a fellow traveller, it's great to read your posts and we really enjoy them. But, like our posts... suddenly, it's NOT about the long process of getting here and fording that system and traveling across the ocean to a new life - but about living and being here. And, honestly, I find that I have less and less interesting stuff to share with my readers because we are just ... here!! AKA, today we went swimming off of the quay and then went to the grocery store and we're on to the next level in our Portuguese classes and ........ Having said that, I do have some stunning videos of crazy kids doing back-flips and cannonballs off of high cliffs into the ocean, so I probably do need to post that. :-)

I want pictures (and video) of ALL of that! Thank you, Lori, for reading, and understanding about being at this point where it tips from the Getting There to the Being There. So happy to be here!

Worth all the "getting there"

I love your blogs, but don't exhaust yourselves. Do what feels comfortable. My internet and phones were down most of last week which is why you didn't get a post from me. Hope it's not too hot there, it's in the 90s here.

Pfft, Aunt Phyllis. He calls this hot? He's forgetting St. Louis already ;-)

Thanks, Aunt Phyllis. Stay cool! It's been pretty hot here, too but starting to cool off a little.

I read your footnotes, too. Love Josie's new floofie!

Don't be discouraged by others lack of time or ability to focus their energy. Many may not be retired yet, as I am. But I find your time, effort, and content stimulating and informative AND I've reached out to other commenters here to connect personally with them. Write when you can; but live your best Portugal life. I'll wait (with baited breath for your next contribution. 😃

I'm glad you caught up with the other Madeirans. Thanks for your support and your comments!

I wondered why you hadn't posted much lately, but I agree, the blog must feel like a job. You're retired! Have some fun! Love you both. XOXO

Once a week and now it doesn't feel like a job At All. Instead ideas are flying fast and furious. I think we were a little overwhelmed there with moving.

I have loved your posts and read each one. I have learned now that I cannot move to and live in Portugal, and your perspectives and descriptions have helped us decide. Your posts should not be a burden; they should be what you want to share, when you want to. But thank you both so much, a I appreciate every post and your efforts!

Glad to hear this has been helpful for you. I'm curious about what makes you say you cannot move to and live in Portugal based on what you've been reading.

Thanks for following along!

Glad you have been liberated from the “need” to generate two blog entries per week. Love the product but it should not get in the way of your enjoying the experience just to keep a production schedule. Happy to read about your experiences whenever life permits you time and energy to share your reflections. And I love the footnotes! Be well! Keep smiling!

Thanks, Tom! I figured you for a footnote reader :-D.

I believe between David and myself we have read all of your posts (he went back to the archives) and the most recent ones even make their way to our dinner table. You have no idea how informative your property purchase was for us and the activities that followed. It's basically a roadmap for us, one that we would be referring to in a few years' time as we build our home in PT. But to echo the other comments, please don't feel pressured to publish. We enjoy your writing, we laugh at your stories, but if you go quiet for two months, we'll just assume you're out and about enjoying life, as you should. As we all should! Then you can just come back refreshed and regale us with your new adventures. ☺️

Wow, the dinner table. I'm surprised you can keep your food down :-D. That's very kind of you and I'm glad you've found our posts so informative.

Somehow I’ve been thinking all along you publish every Monday and occasionally other days. Guess because you brighten what is otherwise a humdrum day of the week.

I have enjoyed reading your blog! I think I have read them all - or most of them, but I seemed to have missed the one which had the survey! HA! Thanks for keeping us informed and entertained. We love the architectural photos (surprise!) and look forward to reading more and seeing more photos.

Gotcha! Architectural photos are my interest as well and I'm always thinking about overloading readers (and Substack!).
