Josie, don't ever come to Copenhagen between December 24 and January 4. You (and any same human) will not like the unmitigated and relentless use of fireworks everywhere until 4am. You especially would not like pedestrians being fired at from bikes and cars, and cars and bikes being fired at by pedestrians. Enjoy all the humans who love you!

Josie was unaware of these Copenhagen proclivities. She thanks you for the warning and will bear this in mind as she plans her travels.

I really enjoyed catching up on your adventures as usual. Saturday in Lisbon was crazy! There was a full blown, seemingly professional, fireworks show over Edward Vll at 2am. That was after all the horn blowing, chanting groups traveling by our balcony and general shrieks of delight. At 12:30 I watched an escort of at least 20 police cars, lights flashing, slowly bring a large red float down a nearby highway. Maybe the Benfica team? It was a night to remember for sure. (Though I can see why it wasn't Josie's cup of tea. 😏)

And, on another note... we are also game lovers and could only bring the bare minimum with us. Currently we are playing a lot of Aggravation and SkipBo. Do you know of a store that sells games (and maybe puzzles) here in Lisbon. Most places I've seen seem to sell kids' games. And is Whisk still hosting game nights? Thank you for any insights.

Hi Debbie! Sounds like quite a night near you. We are far enough away from Eduardo VII now that we missed most of that excitement. Apparently, Marques do Pombal is the place to celebrate big wins (and protest whatever needs protesting on any given weekend).

As far as games go, I know of a few stores. Games of the West is in Saldanha; I've been there a couple of times. They have a great games library and a suave for people to play. They also sell games and food, don't know about puzzles. Their inventory tends to be a little more contemporary than Aggravation and SkipBo. There are other shops I haven't been to but keep hearing about. The main one is gameplay.pt, both a robust online presence and a retail store. Another is jogonamesa.pt.

And there are games at The Whisk every Tuesday and Thursday evening starting at 7. (If you arrive early they won't be open yet. They close after lunch and re-open for the games.) You can RSVP by joining the group Let's Play Boardgames (Lisbon) on Meetup. Or just show up like most people do. It's pretty casual.
